Taste and See EventsTaste and see that the Lord is good, and blessed are all who trust upon Him. -- Psalm 34:8A letter from Pastor RonJanuary 24, 2013Dear friend of South Pointe Church,Blessings in the name of the Lord! I have some information and an invitation for you. First, the update on South Pointe. Many of you, like me, have wondered when will we be able to worship weekly? The primary obstacle to weekly worship is the lack of a consistent team of singers and musicians. Lacking those essentials, we have stopped worship until further notice. Please pray the Lord will raise up a leader who can help us. We will still host bible studies and special events, and would welcome your input.Second, join me in participating in a Lenten study, “A Disciples Path,” which will rotate among six Macon County United Methodist churches beginning February 17th (flyer enclosed). This is a wonderful opportunity for spiritual growth leading up to Easter Sunday, March 31st.Please call me with any questions, (217) 305-6335 or email: email@example.com. We have the books available for purchase at Grace UMC.May the Lord bless you as you grow closer to Him!In His Service,Ron RectorCampus Minister, South Pointe ChurchLenten Bible Study: A Disciple's Path"A Disciple’s Path"Deepening Your Relationship with Christ and the Church by James A. In this post, Ron discusses his backgound in sportscasting and how it eventually led him to God. Future topics include:The importance of gathering with other believersHow to repair broken relationshipsWhy God gives us "hope to cope"
Does this face look familiar? It's probably because Ron was the Sportscaster for WAND-TV for close to 13 years. But after a rude awakening in 1998, Ron realized he was being called into ministry. Since that fateful day, Ron has served as the Area Representative for the Greater Decatur Fellowship of Christian Athletes, acted as Lead Pastor for Maroa Christian Church for close to 7 years, and preached in numerous churches and at the Decatur Correctional Center. But the bottomline is that his heart is to win over people for Christ and to help them grow deeper in their faith. On his days off, Ron can be found snoozing in his favorite chair or watching a Cardinals game. Ron is married to his beautiful wife Mary Ann, and is a proud parent of three children and one granddaughter.

THE SOUTH POINTE STORY Hi and welcome to South Pointe! We have lots to add to this site in the coming months, but we want to at least share the South Pointe story. First off, this is a new church start. You could also call it a church plant, but don’t go looking for fruits and vegetables. Get it? Moving on... South Pointe Church was birthed from a dream of Grace United Methodist Church in Decatur, IL. When South Shores United Methodist Church voted to close on July 1, 2011, they deeded their property and assets to Grace with the hope of reaching the South Shores area for Christ. We gratefully accepted the gift and lovingly embraced the South Shores members at Grace UMC. So, why start a new church? We realize the most effective way to reach new people for Jesus Christ is to start a new type of faith community. South Pointe is going to be whatever it needs to be. We are not locked into any one style of worship or service. We are confined to neither "traditional" nor "comtemporary." Simply put, we are here to serve Christ and community. The bottom line is: we want to give you reason for hope (Christ), with the tools to cope with life. Why is Christ our reason for hope? He loves you so much that he gave his life so that you might have eternal life. As the perfect Son of God, his death and resurrection gives us access to His Father. Like a bridge, Jesus covers the gap between us and God. But only if we believe in Jesus and ask him into our lives. But there's even more good news! You don’t have to dress a certain way, go to the newest church, or do all the right things. All you have to do is say YES to His perfect love, and let Him do the rest. Now, this doesn’t mean your life will be perfect, because it won’t. What it does mean is that Jesus gives us a way to cope. He tells us, “In this world you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). He wants us to hang out together, eat together, take care of each other, pray for each other. But He longs for your love in return. That’s why we worship Him together. As we grow in excitement over our new life in Christ, we want to share it with our friends. So, are you hungry to learn more? Don’t be afraid to give us your name and information by clicking here
(we don't bite). We would love to keep you in the loop for upcoming events, preview services, and then finally, the launch of South Pointe Church. But above all, please pray that the Lord protects us and blesses our efforts as we do battle in His Name. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12). Whether you are hurt or hungry, lonely or lost, full of questions or looking for a new church family, there is a place for you at South Pointe. -Ron Rector Campus Minister
